CBS High

Would you like your high school student to earn college credits?  Do they have questions about what is happening in Israel?  Do they feel ill-equipped to have conversations about Israel?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, CBS has the program for your student!  For a second year, CBS High is partnering with American Jewish University’s (AJU) Jewish Learning Experience (JLE).  We will be offering one class, that will meet on Sundays twice a month from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m.  All class periods will begin with lunch.  The class will be taught by our Director of Education, Stacy Ybarra.

The class we are offering is JST 328: Introduction to Community Dialogue – 3.0 credits

In this class, students will explore the developmental foundations of what it means to be together in community, during both good times and challenging times. Using the story about maklochet l’shem shemayim (argument for the sake of heaven), students will explore a variety of philosophies and methodologies tied to creating and engaging in community. Students will also explore some of the skills needed to engage with other community members in a positive and productive way including understanding our own strengths and triggers, attuned listening and learning how to achieve a win-win feeling at the end of a discussion. The ultimate goal is for students to develop an understanding of the study of Talmud, as well as how they might utilize the skills and strategies they have learned in real-life difficult conversations.

Students will be officially enrolled in AJU and all fees will go directly to them. The cost for the class is $1310 with a $90 registration fee.  There is an automatic $400 scholarship from JUF that will be applied and students can receive another $400 of financial aide by applying through AJU.  To begin the registration process, scan the QR code on the flyer or go to https://tinyurl.com/JLE5786.
