Spend Your Shabbat Mornings at Beth Shalom!

Shabbat morning offers you some choices for experiencing Shabbat.

Weekly:

Our traditional egalitarian service begins at 9:30 in the Kamensky Sanctuary.

--Circle Time/Torah for Tots (ages 2-6): For our congregation's youngest children and their adults, we offer a weekly half-hour of singing, stories and Torah fun from 10-10:30 am. (visitors welcome!) This is followed by babysitting so that parents may return to the adult services.

The following shabbat options do not meet every week. Please check the calendar for specific dates.

For Kids:
--Junior Congregation:
One Saturday of most months, Cantor Raquel will facilitate a Junior Congregation service at 10:30 for students in 3rd-6th grade. Students will help lead prayers and have an opportunity to read from the Torah. It is a great way for students to practice the prayers that they learn in religious school and start to become comfortable with the Shabbat service and being part of a community.

For Adults/Teens
--Study Minyan
: This minyan delves into the Torah with one of our rabbis on one Shabbat of each month from 10:30 until the conclusion of services.

--Learner’s Service: This service/class meets with Cantor Raquel one shabbat every other month from 9:30 – 10:30 to enable those who have difficulty following the service to practice at a slower pace. We will not only practice singing some of the congregational melodies, but will learn about the meaning of the some of the Shabbat prayers. Ability to read Hebrew not required. After the hour, participants may choose to attend study minyan or the regular service in the sanctuary. This service is open to anyone ages 13 - 100 who would like to feel more comfortable in shabbat morning services.

--Spirit of Shabbat: Join Cantor Raquel on alternate months from 9:30-10:30 for an alternative prayer experience. Using niggunim (wordless melodies), simple prayers and percussion, as well as moments of quiet reflection, we will experience the transcendent “taste of the world to come” (mei-ein olam haba) that is Shabbat. After the hour, participants may choose to attend study minyan or the regular service in the sanctuary. Open to post bar/bat mitzvah and older. (adults and teens)

--Shabbat Yoga: Several times a year we offer a unique opportunity to combine a gentle, relaxing yoga session with Jewish spiritual concepts. 11:00 until the conclusion of services.

At the conclusion of services we all join together as one community for a Kiddush lunch in the social hall, followed by birkat hamazon. Our mincha (afternoon) service takes place approximately 45 minutes after the start of the kiddush lunch.
