Congregation Beth Shalom Hebrew School

The
Hebrew School is an integral part of Congregation Beth Shalom where we believe strongly in the value of lifelong Jewish learning. We offer programs for children from kindergarten through high school and opportunities for family involvement are many. Our curriculum is rich and varied. It is designed to give children the tools needed to live a life guided by
Jewish values; to understand the role of
mitzvot in developing a relationship with God; to have a basic knowledge of
Torah,
Hebrew and of
prayers and praying, as well as knowledge about and concern for
Israel and an identity with
Klal Yisrael (the Jewish people). We strive to make the Judaism we teach meaningful and relevant at every level.
Hebrew School classes for children from kindergarten through second grade meet on Sundays. We emphasize hands-on learning and music and library are an important part of this program. Students in
Kitot Aleph through Hay (grades 3 through 7) participate in a
two day program, studying
Hebrew,
Bible,
prayer,
holidays & customs,
history,
lifecycle event,
Israel and
current events.
Family Shabbat Services are available every other Saturday morning.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah training begins approximately a year before and there are several opportunities for family learning to take place. Our post Bat/Bar Mitzvah program, includes a very successful
8th grade Symposium, an innovative program for high school freshmen and sophomores taught by the clergy and principal, and
Junior-Senior Seminar for upperclassmen.
We are prepared to adapt classroom materials and teaching approaches to meet the learning needs of any child in our school and offer tutorial classes for children with special needs.
